So many treats contain ingredients we’ve never heard of, which is worrying.
We made these delicious, hydrating, healthy, and natural dog ice treats that our pooches love!
We’ve used ingredients most of us have around, and you can easily substitute for things you do have. If you don’t have fruits, you can use vegetables, like zucchini, broccoli, peas, sweet potato, or carrot.
Banana – Deliciously sweet, banana is tasty to dogs. It also contains potassium and B6—both essential to your dogs’ health.
Berries – These are low calorie and contain beneficial antioxidants.
Peanut Butter – A high-source of plant-based protein, peanut butter can be added to dog treats. Make sure to find xylitol-free versions, as this artificial sweetener is toxic to dogs. Search for peanut butter, which is 100% pure peanuts, with no added oils, salt, sweetener, or sugar.
Kibble – Many dogs are fed a kibble based diet. We like to use kibble as it’s cheap, easy to use, and something we always have in. It is also a great way to change your feeding routine and make it more of a challenge, or more exciting for your dog to eat. Mixing with water and freezing also means it will slow your dog down, so if you have a fast eater, this could be good for you.
Coconut Oil – Coconut oil is great for their coat and skin. It is also thought to help with digestion and allergies.
Water – Other than hydrating our dogs, we prefer to use water instead of a dairy alternative as our dogs’ struggle to process lactose. It also helps to fill the treats out and keep the costs down without using any nasties.
I also love that these are refreshing and can be used in a variety of ways. We like to put them into treat-dispensing toys to make them last longer. Alternatively, you can use them as delicious training treats.
Let us know if you give these a try, and send a picture of your beautiful doggies!
